Teen Faces Felony Charge After Smearing Poorly-Parked Car with Mascara [TEARSTAINED MUGSHOT]

Who hasn’t been annoyed by someone else’s parking job?

But a Wildwood teen’s reaction — smearing mascara all over a car and scratching the windows — crossed into the criminal, according to St. Louis County prosecutors, and the woman now faces a felony charge.

Carlie A. Hertel, 18, was charged Friday with first-degree property damage after authorities say she caused thousands of dollars of damage to a car she thought was parked incorrectly at the Jewish Community Center, according to authorities.

Bail was set at $2,000 for Hertel, who lives in the 800 block of Babler Park Drive.

Hertel encountered the white 2011 Infiniti at the community center, 16801 Baxter Road, on June 27. The teen smeared mascara all over the windows and mirrors and left a derogatory note behind, authorities said. The windshield and driver’s side window of the car were scratched in the incident, the car’s owner told police.

He declined comment to the Post-Dispatch on Tuesday.

Capt. Steve Lewis of the Chesterfield Police Department said Hertel caused more than $3,000 in damage to the car. Anything above $750 makes it a felony in Missouri.

Hertel admitted leaving a note on the car and smearing mascara all over the vehicle “because the way it was parked made her angry,” police said in court documents.article-2714527-20363A1E00000578-254_634x752
